YOUTH COORDINATOR
2 Full Time - Temporary
(Contract Position to June 30th - with the possibility of extension)
Across Boundaries, is an ethnoracial mental health center located in and serving the residents of Toronto, and has a proud track record of providing equitable, inclusive and holistic mental health and addiction services to racialized communities within an anti-racism/anti-oppression framework.
Across Boundaries and Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) as sponsoring agencies have received funding in partnership with Health Equity Council, Access Alliance and Colour of Poverty – Colour of Change from the Public Health Agency of Canada for a project entitled “Taking Action to Reduce Health Inequalities”. This project aims to:-
a) Build effective, sustainable mental health resilience and community capacity amongst racialized youth and their families.
b) Work towards the reduction of structural barriers that result in mental health disparities.
c) Identify innovative approaches and interventions that can enhance youth’s access to services.
d) Develop equitable long-term partnerships among different sectors to sustain the intervention.
We are looking for a dynamic individual to become Youth Coordinator to work with the Project Manager in implementing the youth focus and youth informed project.
JOB SUMMARY
The Youth Coordinator will report directly to the Project Manager of Across Boundaries and will work collaboratively with the Project Committee overseeing the project. The Youth Coordinator will be responsible for outreaching to racialized youth communities. The successful candidate should be able to provide overall input to the project as well as make recommendations to the Project Manager. The job will require flexible hours, with some evenings and weekend work involved.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
- Working experience with and among racialized youth from anti-racism/anti-oppression point view
- Interest in health, mental health and other challenges faced by marginalized communities
- Experience working with Canadian-born, immigrant, refugee and members of racialized communities
- Understand the strengths and challenges experienced by youth of one or more of the following communities: Eritrean, Ethiopian, Somalian & Sudanese, or African/Caribbean, Bangladeshi, Tamil and Bi-racial/mixed race
- Connected to Toronto-area youth networks
- Ability to work as part of a team, independently and make decision
- Have basic proficiency in written and spoken English
- Volunteer and lived experience an asset
DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND RELATED TASKS:
- To do intensive outreach and recruitment of racialized youth
- Assist with the overall design and implementation of the project, using a youth centered and youth informed approach
- Assist in developing youth-friendly recruitment posters, training curriculum and tools
- Be involved in data collection, data analysis, resource and report writing and dissemination
- Coordinate a youth Advisory group as needed
- Provide regular reports to the Project Manager to reflect goals and timelines
- Represent the project on external committees where appropriate
- Promote the project, its mandate and activities to the greater community
- Assist with administrative tasks, required to complete the project
- Comply with agency policies, standards, guidelines and procedures
- Able to work flexible hours: including evenings and weekends
- Working in cooperation with co-coordinator, management and other Across Boundaries staff members in the provision of efficient and coordinated services
- Other duties as assigned
